Project Description
The
Wyandotte Lake Dam is a state-owned facility located in the
Harrison-Crawford State Forest in Crawford County, Indiana. The dam is 20
feet high and experienced an uncontrolled breach in the mid-1990’s as a
result of spillway failure. CBBEL was hired to prepare plans and permit
applications to fill the breach area and to design a new spillway system.
This project also included a detailed dam inspection and the design of
upgrades to the earthen embankment.

Scope of Engineering & Professional Services
Engineering services included a detailed hydrologic analysis of storm
water flows; hydraulic analyses of a new concrete spillway, an energy
dissipation structure, and the downstream channel; and preparation of
detailed construction drawings and specifications. Design elements
included a regraded embankment, a new spillway, and a new outfall channel.
The detailed construction plans included excavation and grading plans,
quantity take-offs, dewatering plans, spillway plans, revegetation plans,
construction cost estimates, and erosion and sediment control plans.
CBBEL staff also coordinated surveying and geotechnical subcontractors to
obtain the necessary design data. CBBEL staff developed alternate
approaches to determine the most effective option.
