Project Description

The project involved the design of a replacement structure for a deteriorated concrete slabtop under fill. The survey and land title information was conducted by CBBEL staff. Design elements included hydrology and hydraulic analysis of existing and proposed conditions to size the proposed structure and localized drainage improvements, pavement widening, and horizontal alignment improvements. Design constraints included limiting work to existing 50’ total R/W, minimizing tree removal, and maintaining the existing profile grade. In addition, special provisions were designed to prevent stormwater backflow into an existing Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) within the project.

Scope of Engineering & Professional Services

CBBEL performed an engineering survey of the impact area.  Potential impacts to existing utilities were evaluated prior to utility coordination.  An analysis of the existing drainage system was performed.  Proposed culvert sizing was optimized based on hydraulic requirements and available headroom under the existing road profile grade.  The proposed crossing included pavement widening and guardrail improvements to reduce the hazards to motorists at an adjacent high school.  Construction plan sheets and contract documents were produced by CBBEL.  In addition, CBBEL staff provided Contractor Bid Review and comment for the project.
