Watershed Based
Planning, Design, and Policy
Growth in our communities has strained our stormwater conveyance
and storage capabilities, and the associated land uses in our
watersheds have affected flooding and water quality for many
counties and municipalities. The result has been overloading of
streams, lakes, and sewer systems. These challenges are compounded
by the parochial and dislocated process of water resource
protection that has evolved in our society. Planners do not always
communicate with engineers, and different units of government do
not always communicate and plan together.
CBBEL was one of the first engineering firms to promote a total,
watershed-based approach to resolving both water quality and water
quantity issues. Taking a “watershed approach” is now standard
language among our competitors; however, CBBEL actually practices
what we preach with regard to holistic and comprehensive planning.
Our broad approach is based upon: |
Experience gained by
the successful production of watershed master plans for projects
throughout the Midwest involving hydraulic and hydrologic
analysis.
Long-term experience with local, state, and federal watershed
management programs.
Experience realized through the completion of more Stormwater
Quality Master Plans than any other firm in Indiana.
A holistic watershed planning and management approach that teams
professional engineers with experienced land use planners,
scientists, and regulatory and policy experts.
Involvement with, and in many cases, the establishment of large,
regional watershed groups around Indiana.
