Water Resources Project Manager

Christopher B. Burke Engineering, LLC has an immediate opening for a Water Resources Project Manager with a minimum of 5 years of experience to join our Indianapolis, Indiana office. We seek experienced and responsive professionals who are committed to personal service. Qualified individuals must be self-motivated and looking to handle a multitude of various projects. Burke is a full-service civil engineering and environmental firm that can comprehensively meet the needs of both private and public sector clients. Our Civil Design and Water Resources groups focus on a wide range of projects including roadways, parking lots, bike paths, parks, and pedestrian facilities, utility permitting, stormwater management studies and design, floodplain analysis, and permitting and design for a variety of municipalities, counties, and INDOT/LPA.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversees and manages projects within the Engineering Department
  • Develops, reviews and comments on water resources studies, technical memoranda, calculations, models, and overall work product
  • Leads project planning, project tracking, scope management, change control management, risk management, and quality assurance of project team
  • Serves as primary point of communication for client, subconsultants and internal coordination
  • Makes independent decisions based on analysis, experience and context
  • Uses value engineering, optimization and judgement from previous experience as well as technical input and contributions from others throughout design process to accomplish goals
  • Communicates effectively and coordinates project components with other internal departments through email, meetings, etc.  
  • Develops proposals and project budgets and ensures projects are completed according to time and budget schedules, and that objectives conform to overall standards and operations objectives and user requirements
  • Supervises the completion, quality check and approval of client proposals and contracts
  • Maintains compliance with department procedures and standards
  • Resolves project conflicts with effective management
  • Tracks projects’ actual expenditures versus planned expenditures
  • Reviews and approves monthly billing invoices and prepares monthly progress report
  • Advises client of expenditure status, as needed
  • Continually develops knowledge of water resources and environmental regulations, and water resources engineering best practices and standards by leveraging job experience and attending continuing education training
  • Plays an active role in business development
  • Expands existing network and influence by actively participating in professional organizations, attending networking events, and fostering new relationships that can contribute to potential talent identification and business development opportunities
  • Meets with current clients on a regular or as needed basis to gain feedback on how to further develop and improve the relationship
  • Provides mentorship and drives employee development for direct reports
  • Actively participates and contributes to identifying key talent for the company
  • Understands and leads efforts to enforce company policy and procedures

Key Qualifications:

  • B.S. or M.S. in Civil Engineering or related field and a minimum 5 years of civil design or water resources experience
  • PE license or on PE track preferred
  • Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM) preferred
  • Experience supporting and mentoring engineers
  • Proficiency with hydrologic and hydraulic modeling software applications including HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, TR-20, SWMM, HY-8, Hydraflow, xpswmm, and other complex models such as FEQ, unsteady state hydraulic models, and 2D modeling
  • Proficiency with GIS
  • Working knowledge and experience with state and regional stormwater regulations required
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills are required
  • Project experience working with various counties and/or local municipalities
  • Valid driver’s license required

Civil Design Project Manager

We seek experienced and responsive professionals who are committed to personal service. Qualified individuals must be self-motivated and looking to handle a multitude of various projects. Burke is a full-service civil engineering and environmental firm that can comprehensively meet the needs of both private and public sector clients. Construction Inspector

Christopher B. Burke Engineering, LLC has an immediate opening for a Construction Inspector to join our Indianapolis, Indiana office. We seek experienced and responsive professionals who are committed to personal service. Qualified individuals must be self-motivated and looking to handle a multitude of various projects. Burke is a full-service civil engineering and environmental firm that can comprehensively meet the needs of both private and public sector clients. Our Construction Engineering group focuses on a wide range of projects including underground infrastructure, dam and levee inspection, private development, sewer rehabilitation, roadway and trail construction, and small structure replacement.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Capable of reading plans and contract specifications
  • Assists and gains knowledge in field engineering, survey staking and inspection operations
  • Inspects construction progress and performs continuous surveillance of assigned activities to ensure compliance with plans and specifications
  • Understands and can support interpretation of INDOT plans and capable of measuring and recording quantities per INDOT standards and specifications
  • Familiar with using the INDOT quality assurance manuals as a resource for determining sampling frequencies and inspection procedures for materials used in construction
  • Observes and assists with contractor field activities and documents results on findings related to the inspections; observes and documents non-conformance situations and change in management events
  • Assists with documentation of contract quantities
  • Assists the Resident Engineer in completing a level run through basic understanding of surveying
  • Effectively communicates project status and timelines with supervisor and internal resources on a daily basis
  • Works, potentially, in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, on difficult or hazardous terrain, and/or under physically demanding circumstances
  • Adapts to seasonal fluctuations in work hours - hours can be in excess of 40 during busy seasons

Key Qualifications:

  • Associate degree in civil engineering or relevant experience in the construction field
  • Previous internship or related experience in relevant field
  • Experience with INDOT SiteManager a plus
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Skills to partner with the team and provide outstanding support to our clients
  • Skills to employ innovative solutions to problems
  • Valid driver’s license required
