To date, Burke has successfully prepared MHMPs for more than 100 municipalities and counties in the Midwest.
The Federal Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000 (DMA 2000) requires communities to develop a multi-hazard mitigation plan (MHMP). The intent is to identify local hazards; determine the extent to which they affect the community; and identify mitigation projects to reduce the social, physical, and economic impact of hazards. All National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) communities in the United States are required to prepare a MHMP.
Burke's planning staff works closely with numerous NFIP communities throughout the state of Indiana to prepare individual and multi-jurisdictional MHMPs, as well as plan updates, including the first multi-jurisdictional MHMP to be approved and adopted in the state.
